How to get your ideal clients to self-identify “I need her”
You’re on socials and you spend a lot of time posting your life and thoughts on a screen. None of this matters if you don’t get paid.
Do you know how to get people to raise their hand and self-identify as your target group? Many online business owners struggle with this, resulting in messaging that lacks connection with their ideal clients (your aunt is following you but not your ideal client) and too little leads.
I’m here to help you with the basics. Because over the years, I’ve witnessed clients making the same mistake over and over again.
The Common Problem: Vague Messaging
Too often, online business owners fail to make it clear who they’re talking to and who they are not for.
On your Instagram and LinkedIn account you talk about trauma work, breath work but also mindfulness and mindset. This ambiguity dilutes the message, making it hard for potential clients to see themselves in the most important thing…..your offer.
For example, a coach might say, "Here's a breathwork exercise to help you feel better."
But what does "feel better" really mean? Is it about reducing stress, overcoming anxiety, or something more specific like stopping binge eating? Without this clarity, your audience won’t know if what you’re offering is relevant to them, and they won’t take the next step.
Reframe the Message: Specificity is Key
In my “Get Paid Not Liked” offer, I help my clients analyze where their messaging is vague and how to become more specific.
Let’s consider that same breathwork example. If the exercise is meant to help someone stop binge eating in a week or less, that needs to be explicitly stated:
"When you do this daily the way I teach, and combine it with the other aspects of my process for reduce anxiety, you should almost totally feel less stressed and triggered in short amount of time – we're talking weeks, not months or years."
This kind of context not only provides clarity but also allows potential clients to see if the tip is working for them, making them more likely to engage and self-identify as part of your target group.
Let’s Consider Another Example: A Mindset Coach
Imagine you're a mindset coach who specializes in helping entrepreneurs overcome self-doubt and procrastination. A vague message might say:
"Here’s a visualization technique to help you stay focused and motivated."
While that sounds helpful, it’s too general and doesn’t speak directly to the specific problem your ideal clients are facing. Instead, reframe it with specificity:
"When you practice this visualization technique daily as I guide you, you'll notice a significant reduction in self-doubt within the first week, allowing you to take consistent action on your business goals without second-guessing yourself."
This reframed message makes it clear who the offer is for—entrepreneurs struggling with self-doubt—and what specific outcome they can expect, which helps them recognize that this is the solution they've been looking for.
By being specific, you not only attract the right clients but also empower them to see the immediate benefits of your guidance, making them more likely to hit the “BUY” button.
Applying This in Your Own Posts
Let me practice what I preach here. I’ve seen this over and over again: when you provide this kind of context in the posts you write - combined with other elements in my right people-right person- right offer framework- you should start to see at least 1 person in your inbox weekly or monthly interested in working with you (results depend on the platform).
These leads will be pre-sold, meaning that they’re ready to buy and you should get an easy yes or a question for the link of the program. If you’re on Instagram specifically, there are many ways to apply specificity in different format.
Taking the example above, you could make a reel using the hook “Here’s what happens when you practice this visualization technique daily”. In the caption you can give the specific context a clients needs in order to buy.
Are you a right fit?
This strategy will only work if you have a clear understanding of your ideal clients, their desires, and their fears. And honestly…. that’s your job as an entrepreneur. If you're still trying to appeal to everyone, you'll struggle to craft messages that resonate, and you'll end up with vague content that doesn't attract anyone.
No matter how many of these trainings you buy.
You’re also no a great fit if you want to rely on business energetics only. Although I’m a a big fan of raising your consciousness (OBVIOUSLY), relying on high vibes only is just not a sustainable way to build a coaching business.
However, if you've already defined your target audience, know what they want and need and you’re willing to put in the work, this approach will help you connect with dream clients on a deeper level.
When you tailor your messaging to speak directly to those ideal clients, you’ll see a significant increase in engagement and, most importantly, sales.
You’ll not only get people to raise their hand and say, "That's me!" but also get them to hit the “BUY” button because they’ll see your offer as the exact solution they’ve been looking for. In other words: You’ll get paid and not liked.
